At Yahoo, Using Searches To Steer News Coverage (NYT)

Welcome to the era of the algorithm as editor. With the advent of technology that allows media companies to identify what kind of content readers want, the model of editors determining what information is important is becoming inverted. The latest and perhaps broadest effort yet in democratizing the news is under way at Yahoo, which is introducing a news blog that will rely on search queries to help guide its reporting and writing on national affairs, politics and the media. FishbowlNY: Newstogram, which has recently collaborated with ImpreMedia, is in the business of tracking searches, clicks and previously visited topics in order to curate personalized results for repeat website visitors.
