Richard Johnson Leaves Page Six (Politico)

In another high-profile departure from print to new media, Richard Johnson — the essential, feared New York Post gossip columnist — is leaving the New York Post’s Page Six for News Corp. “digital ventures.” News Corp.’s new online news outlet is aimed at iPad users, and Johnson’s departure from the tabloid is a huge blow to the Post, and suggests that the company is willing to poach from its vibrant, money-losing tabloid for the new digital site. NY Post: Emily Smith, who cut her teeth on Fleet Street before coming to New York five years ago, will take over the reins next month when Johnson moves to Los Angeles. “Emily is a star and we are thrilled with her reporting, writing and leadership,” said Post editor in chief Col Allan. “She is going to be a fixture in this town for a long time to come.”
