President Barack Obama exercised his revenge Saturday after weeks of attacks from would-be Republican challenger Donald Trump, joking that the billionaire businessman could bring change to the White House, transforming it from a stately mansion into a tacky casino with a whirlpool in the garden. Mediaite: Obama was introduced with an intentionally cheesy video package (picture Barney Stinson’s video resume from How I Met Your Mother) set to Rick Derringer’s “I Am A Real American” and featuring a repeating shot of his birth certificate set against an American flag background. TheWrap.com: The president then unleashed a barrage of birth certificate jokes. “Hopefully this puts to rest any lingering doubts,” Obama said, “but just in case, I am releasing my official birth video.” A clip from The Lion King followed. TheWrap.com: Trump, who began the week taking credit for the White House’s decision to release Obama’s birth certificate, was promptly booed on arrival. Mediaite: Seth Meyers, taking the podium after Obama, was in his element. He took a few moments to acknowledge how upset he was that the birth certificate issue had been resolved right before the dinner, because now all of his birther material was useless. THR: CNN’s Anderson Cooper didn’t take offense at the barbs Saturday Night Livewriter Meyers directed at him. FishbowlDC: Politicoput out a glossy edition this weekend in celebration of the WHCD.
