In a city filled with more architectural talent than most towns can withstand, certain events come along that up the ante on a forward-thinking knowledge-base worthy of highlighting. One such event was “Trends in Architectural Materials & Color Design” a panel discussion held at the AFNY Showroom on Monday, May 21st, during ICFF. Congratulations to AFNY, who won Best In Show for the second consective year for best exhibit in the fair.

The evening’s one-hour discussion, which followed a 45-minute prosecco reception, highlighted digital fabrication, materials and textures currently leading architectural specifications, the focus being on the uniqueness of residential clients who want something different in their kitchen & bath environments. If you’re an architect or designer, you have no doubt had the realization that there are no generalizations when it comes to a homeowner’s ideas for his or her sanctuary. The panel included Andrew Kotchen, Bennett Friedman, Brian Messana, Elisa Ours, Kelsey Keith, Joel Sanders and Stephen Sills.

“We had 135 top industry A&D leaders participating in the wider group discussion,” says Courtney Lukitsch, principal of Gotham Public Relations, who planned the event. “AFNY’s Bennett Friedman hosted 40 invited A&D press to a sit-down multi-course private dinner at Craft Restaurant afterward. The event was quite cogent even in a city with an abundance of architectural forums.”
